SMU hosted the third SMU China Forum 2015 themed “China’s Alternative Vision for the World?” on 16 November 2015. Distinguished experts from the business, academic and government sectors agreed that with China’s “One Belt One Road” initiative, there will be a deepening collaboration between China and international community. Lim Swee Say, Singapore’s Minister of Manpower, delivered the opening address, reviewing the achievements of government to government (G-to-G) cooperation between China and Singapore since 1990. He pointed out that although China and Singapore are quite different in size and population, they have common interests in various aspects. SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer said SMU aims to contribute to the third G-to-G project in Chongqing. He also said that SMU is currently finalising a Dual-Master’s degree partnership in Applied Finance with a leading Chinese university partner to contribute talents to the “One Belt, One Road” initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank. The keynote speakers included Professor Chen Zhimin, Dean, School of International Relations and Public Affairs, Fudan University; Professor Thomas Christiansen, Jean Monnet Professor of European Institutional Politics, and Co-Director of the Maastricht Centre for European Governance, Maastricht University; and Mr Jim Lai Chi Ming, Vice President, Tencent Group. A closed-door lunch round-table on “Financial Innovations under One Belt, One Road” was held, attended by representatives from China Embassy in Singapore, Singapore Business Federation, China Enterprise Association (Singapore), Alipay and SMU. A research workshop on “Social Innovations and Social Enterprises” also took place, with representation from Tsinghua University, Fudan University, National Chengchi University and SMU.
